Overview
The Socket Mobile SocketScan S740 is a universal Bluetooth barcode scanner that goes further than standard retail scanners. In addition to all popular 1D and 2D barcodes on printed labels and device screens, the S740 reads OCR fonts (OCR-A, OCR-B, OCR USC, OCR Passport, OCR MICR E13B) and DotCode — covering passports, international IDs, micro QR codes on driver's licenses, and pharmaceutical DotCode markings with a single device.
Enhanced to scan small barcodes, with a scanning range of 2 to 19 inches (5–48 cm), it pairs with iOS (Apple MFi certified), Android, and Windows devices via Bluetooth. Auto Scan Mode enables continuous hands-free presentation scanning without pressing the trigger. In HID mode it works out-of-the-box with any app; CaptureSDK unlocks advanced features in 700+ natively integrated applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the SocketScan S740 and DuraScan D740?
Both scan 1D/2D barcodes and OCR fonts including passport MRZ. The key differences are form factor and ruggedness: the SocketScan S740 (CX3809-2569) has a standard design with a built-in non-replaceable battery, suited for retail and light-duty use. The DuraScan D740 has a field-replaceable battery, IP54 sealing, and a more rugged build for warehouse and demanding environments.
Does the S740 work without any app or SDK?
Yes. In HID mode (default) it appears as a Bluetooth keyboard — no app or SDK required. CaptureSDK unlocks advanced features like battery status, auto-reconnect, and custom data formatting for apps that have integrated it.
Can the S740 read barcodes on smartphone screens?
Yes. The 2D imager reads barcodes from LCD and OLED screens — including digital loyalty cards, boarding passes, coupons, and mobile wallet QR codes — as well as printed labels.
What does Auto Scan Mode do?
Auto Scan (presentation) mode continuously scans without requiring the trigger to be pressed — ideal for high-throughput checkout, ticket scanning, or any stationary scanning station where speed matters.
