Komodo CaCo3 sand substrates create a natural and attractive desert environment for a terrarium. Available in a wide range of FDA approved colours, they provide variety and enrichment to a habitat. Lizards and snakes love bright colours, but tortoises prefer natural tones to match the colour of their carapace (shell). The Caco Sands are made from 100% natural calcium carbonate, the sand has been tested as safe and digestible if inadvertently consumed by a reptile. The sand also conducts heat well, which helps maintain the temperature and provides a natural microclimate for desert species. The sand is suitable for use with a heat mat. Many desert reptiles love to dig and burrow in the sand and you should provide a depth of sand to suit your particular species of reptile. Directions: Spread substrate evenly over the bottom of the terrarium, filling to a depth of 2.5 - 5cm. If using heat mat refer to manufacturer’s instructions for depth required. Moisten the substrate to create extra humidity but avoid waterlogging. Check daily to remove soiled chips. Completely replace substrate every 2-3 weeks, or more frequently if heavily soild or wet. Safety: All loose substrates can cause impacted gut if consumed in large quantities. To help prevent excessive ingestion ensure that your reptile has sufficient calcium in its diet.
