What is Preferred Symbol?

Preferred Symbol allows the DS4608-HC to capture and ouTPUt only the intended barcode when multiple barcodes appear in the scan field — for example, on a blood bag with multiple labels. Without this feature, staff must physically cover adjacent barcodes before scanning. Preferred Symbol eliminates this step, reducing errors and saving time during high-throughput medication administration and specimen tracking.

Why does it have white illumination LEDs instead of the standard red?

White LEDs provide uniform, full-spectrum illumination that makes it significantly easier to read barcodes on colour-coded materials — such as specimen trays (which use colour coding to distinguish sample types) and biopsy cassettes. Red-only illumination can make certain colour-coded labels appear low-contrast or even invisible. White illumination ensures reliable decode regardless of label colour.
