Overview
The Zebra LI4278 takes 1D barcode scanning to the next level with cordless Bluetooth freedom, allowing workers to move freely and scan at high speed — up to 547 scans per second at distances of up to 55 in./139.7 cm for 200% UPC codes. It reads virtually any 1D barcode, including printed paper labels, electronic barcodes on mobile phone screens (for loyalty cards and mobile coupons), and high-density codes used in electronics manufacturing.
With 500-barcode onboard memory, scanning can continue even outside Bluetooth range. The LI4278 is backward compatible with LS4278 and DS6878 cradles and accessories, protecting existing investments while upgrading performance. This kit (LI4278-TRBU0100ZWR) includes the scanner, desktop cradle (CR0078-SC10007WR), and 7 ft USB cable (CBA-U01-S07ZAR) in Twilight Black.
Note: The EAN provided by the distributor for this SKU is 0799471567272. The Zebra LI4278 has been officially discontinued — the current successor is the DS4678-SR.

Use Cases
Retail Checkout: Cordless freedom lets cashiers scan items inside and outside the cash wrap — including large items in shopping carts — without stretching a cable. The cradle charges and communicates simultaneously.
Warehouse & Inventory: 100 m Bluetooth range and 500-barcode offline memory keep operations running even in large storage areas with unreliable wireless coverage.
Mobile Loyalty & Coupons: Reads electronic barcodes on mobile phone screens — ideal for loyalty card scanning, digital coupon processing, and mobile ticketing at retail POS.
Electronics Manufacturing: Handles high-density 1D codes on component labels at close range, alongside standard retail barcodes — a single device for multiple environments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the LI4278 discontinued? Can I still buy it?
Zebra has officially discontinued the LI4278 — the current recommended successor is the DS4678-SR, which adds 2D scanning capability. Stock of the LI4278 may still be available through distributors. If you need guaranteed long-term supply, consider the DS4678-SR as a drop-in upgrade.
Is the LI4278 cradle compatible with older Zebra scanners?
Yes. The CR0078 cradle included in this kit is backward compatible with the LS4278 and DS6878 scanners. If you are upgrading from either of those models, your existing cradle infrastructure can be reused.
Can the LI4278 scan barcodes when out of Bluetooth range?
Yes. The LI4278 has built-in memory for up to 500 barcodes. Scanned data is stored locally and transmitted automatically when the scanner returns within range of the cradle — preventing data loss in large or partially shielded environments.
Does the LI4278 scan 2D barcodes such as QR codes?
No. The LI4278 is a 1D linear imager only — it does not read QR codes, DataMatrix, or any 2D symbology. If 2D scanning is required, consider the Zebra DS4678 (the official successor) or the DS6878.
